Socialism vs. Fascism

Is the Obama administration socialist (as Republicans are so fond of parroting) or fascist? You decide.

Socialism versus fascism, according to the Concise Encyclopedia of Economics, "Where socialism sought totalitarian control of a society’s economic processes through direct state operation of the means of production, fascism sought that control indirectly, through domination of nominally private owners. Where socialism nationalized property explicitly, fascism did so implicitly, by requiring owners to use their property in the “national interest”—that is, as the autocratic authority conceived it. (Nevertheless, a few industries were operated by the state.) Where socialism abolished all market relations outright, fascism left the appearance of market relations while planning all economic activities. Where socialism abolished money and prices, fascism controlled the monetary system and set all prices and wages politically. In doing all this, fascism denatured the marketplace."

It is, of course, neither.

Fascism = Headed by a dictatorial leader, forcible suppression of opposition, social regimentation, it exalts the nation and often race above the individual. Entrepreneurship is strictly abolished.

Socialism seeks totalitarian control of a society's economic process through direct state operation of the means of all production. It says WHAT is made, HOW MUCH of it, and WHEN it is available.

We have none of the attributes above.

We have a leader who was elected by the people (overwhelmingly, one might add). And unlike the Bush administration, there is no forcible suppression of opposition (remember firings of those who oppose his policies?)

What we have (and have always had, under both Republican and Democrat leadership is an "Interventionsism" form of government. Interventionism seeks to guide the market process, not eliminate it.

People are free to have their own businesses - start a new company that sells things, or services. This is not allowed in Fascism.

Here in America we get to pick and chose what we want to make things work.

We need roads, police, fire departments, schools, clean water, sanitation? These are all taken care of by government - either in the form of direct creation and oversight through taxes, or through regulation and inspection: Ex. FDA, EPA, OSHA, etc this is all form of "socialism" that noone seems to cry about.

However we also have competition, the ability to invent something, start a business, have that business be competed against by another, choice of products by consumers - All capitalist ideas.

To say that any administration in our history is anything other that a mix of "isms' would be incorrect.

He's a Facist. Our corrupt politicians control and chose what will work. We need to watch the future of our country very closely or we'll lose it.

Patrick of course is 100% wrong.

Many people attribute many facets of Nazi's to being a fascist. A fascist government has 3 qualities and only three qualities.

1.) Authoritarian
2.) Nationalist
3.) Corporate economic ideology.

Lets review:

Barack Obama wants to force people to have health care and if they don't they get put in prison. Authoritarian. (Check)

Barack Obama wants school kids to write essays on how they can make America better. Nationalist (Check)

Barack Obama gave TRILLIONS to corporations and nothing to small business. Corporatist. (Check)

Therefore...and without ANY doubt...Barack Obama is a fascist.

This kind of comment makes me want to throw up. Have you not been watching our country for the past decade and seen the loss of personal human rights in this country? Does your ideology make you that stupid? Read a little, would ya?

That's not nationalism, he's just fishing for ideas because his cabinet doesn't have any.

It's common among Republicans to disparagingly claim a Socialist president. But after reading the given definition, ol' Barack appears to be directing our country toward fascism.

The health care bill takes on the appearance of beneficial progress, of help to the poor and old and everyone in between. But what about the penalty an American will face for NOT purchasing government mandated insurance? Obama criticized the Massachusetts health care mandate in a speech on February 21, 2008, then turned around and sold a faultier product. And we bought it!

I certainly can't wait until 2014 when I'll be fined for not having health insurance. My grandfather, 70 years old, has gone his entire life without insurance; I'll be 23, a student, tax-imposed for not obtaining govern(mental) health care.

Next thing we know, "liberty" will be deemed blasphemous and removed from the dictionary.

Hey, really lucky Alex, that you and your grandfather who don't have health care haven't needed it. How remarkable. How can anyone claim that it's ever better NOT to have any?? Holy crap.

So if something happens to you and you aren't as lucky and healthy as your grandfather you will go to a public clinic so the rest of us have to pay for you anyway--or are you saying you'd just prefer to die quietly at home because you sure as hell won't be able to afford to go to the doctor or hospital if you get sick. Wow--, yeah, what a terrible thing that some Americans are starting to think that maybe we could take care of each other a little bit more and better.

A friend of mine saw the results of the lack of affordable health care when he worked in Oaklahoma for two years. Students would be out of school with injuries and illness so bad that any of us would go to the doctor--but they didn't because they couldn't afford it and didn't have health care. Not because they didn't want health care, because they couldn't get health care. Couldn't. Could not afford it. Get it? ANd so they missed school or work.

But the saddest thing is they often vote for the people who are trying to convince them they should maintain the, um, right? to not be able to afford health care. The rich in this ocuntry have brain washed many of the poor pretty successfully--just yell socialist or communist--seems to work every time.
